NHJC Team Selection Policy (March 2008)

NHJC Team Selection Policy Issued March 2008

NHJC will be selecting balanced representative teams (or development squads) to play at the appropriate level (District A or B Tournament, as applicable) taking into account:

· Player Availability, Player Attitude, and Player Commitment;
· Current Form for school/club taking into account your team and level of competition;
· Standard of Physical Fitness;
· Technical and Overall Skills offered in the context of selecting a balanced team with the right mix of skills;
· Situational Awareness (ability to stay focussed, concentrate and be aware of what is required to win cricket games, no matter what the state of the game might be)
· Previous Results for North Harbour (where applicable)
If you are selected for a NHJC Development Squad or Representative Team there are some fundamental expectations and requirements you must understand and follow at all times:
1. Read and follow at all times the NHJC Code of Conduct which may be viewed at:
http://www.northharbourcricket.co.nz/NHJC-Code-of-Conduct.pdf

2. Accept and understand the role expected of you by your NHJC selector or coach when playing for North Harbour. You may be playing as an all rounder in your club or school team with some success, however, when playing for North Harbour you may be selected in a different position or as a batsman only (or as bowler batting at the tail). Also, trial games are often used to try out new players and different combinations and as a NHJC player you are expected to co-operate during this process.

You (and your parents):
· Must co-operate at all times with your captain, coach, teammates, officials and opponents;
· Must accept any decisions made by a NHJC or ACA official in regard to NHJC team selections, batting and bowling orders and match strategy;
· Are not permitted to approach and question or comment on a NHJC/ACA coach or selector’s decision before, during or immediately after matches.

Should you (or your parents) have an issue or require clarification in respect to your NHJC (or ACA) selection or involvement these may be raised with the NHJC Grade Convenor the day following the match.

If you are not satisfied with the explanation provided you may then ask your Club or School Director of Coaching/Chairperson to raise the matter formally on your behalf with either NHJC or ACA as applicable.

3. Turn up for each game at the time requested by your coach for warm up.

4. Stay till the end of the game unless you have cleared leaving early with your coach/manager.

5. Sit with your NHJC team mates at all times. Support from family and friends is welcome but NHJC are attempting to instil the necessary skills to enable young players to perform at a high level and immerse themselves in cricket. So, when playing for NHJC, our teams sit together as a team and their families and supporters sit away from the teams. Players may talk to their families and they are welcome to come over to the team area, but NHJC ask that players limit the time they spend with outsiders during games or trials. Players will learn a lot more and will become far more of a valued team player if they are always together as a unit.

6. If you cannot make your game, please advise your coach, manager or captain urgently (and at the earliest opportunity) so that a replacement player can be found.

7. Respond promptly to requests for player game availability. When coaches or convenors leave messages (phone or email) asking you to confirm your availability for a trial or game you must reply by the required date.

8. Keep team and personal gear tidy and packed up in gear bag, not spread everywhere.

9. Take pride in representing NHJC. Always wear the NHJC playing uniform (or other advised uniform).

FAILURE TO ACCEPT OR FOLLOW THESE REQUIREMENTS MAY AFFECT YOUR FUTURE SELECTION FOR NORTH HARBOUR JUNIOR CRICKET REPRESENTATIVE SIDES
