Preliminary list of players eligible for NH Yr 12/13 - 2015

The age group this year is Yr12/13 combined.

While North Harbour is only allowed one team, Auckland Cricket have agreed North Harbour can provide two (even) Yr 12/13 teams for the end of year District tournament.

The Coaches for the teams will be Andrew Cowell and Mike Tillett.

The program this year will consist of approximately five weeks of Spring nets in and around September, followed up by the three or four pre-season games through October/November. We're aware of exam commitments through that period so we intend being flexible with game attendance.

The District tournament in 2014 was from Dec 13th to Dec 22nd, the timing is likely to be similar again this year.

A very preliminary list of 44 players have been identified as being eligible and selection possibilities for NH Yr 12/13 2015 as below.

The only thing for you to do now is let us know if you are not going to be available.

Massey Cup Winner Announcement

Stephen Jones has taken an extended summer break but has now concluded his annual task based on a formula known to no man. Actually, it’s a formula tried and true that North Harbour has used for years to select its top 12 players based on points accrued through performance (ie you get points for runs, catches, run outs, wickets, centuries, 5 wickets etc).
The winner of the Massey Cup for the top performing North Harbour U18 player of the ACA District Tournament is:
CLAYTON FLOYD
With 105 tournament runs and 15 wickets Clayton has taken out this year’s cup. Congratulations Clayton!
It may be small reward for Clayton having missed out on travelling with the Auckland Under 19s to tournament by fracturing his hip in a club game for Takapuna the day before he was due to travel.
Your cup will be engraved and can be collected from Stephen Jones in due course.

To see who made the top 12 this year click here: http://northharbourcricket.co.nz/U17Stats.htm where you will also find a history of past performances at tournament by North Harbour players.

Well done to everyone who took part and best of luck for the rest of the cricket season.

Subsequent to trials for Auckland, and team namings, the Auckland Under 17 side became National Champs in Wellington and included the following players who played for Harbour in the Under 18 district tournament:
William O'Donnell
Nathan Banks
Cole Briggs
Ross ter Braak
Chris Groenink
Well done boys and special mention to Cole Briggs who was named in the tournament team.  (See stats here: http://www.blackcaps.co.nz/archive/seasons.aspx

Thanks to for the gifts given to me at the end of the tournament, much appreciated and unexpected.

See you around the traps. Any volunteers for convenor next year? Please let me know and I will let Sue Woods know and flick you the files. We’re not sure of the format of the tournament next year but if your offspring will be Under 18 again next year feel free to give an indication of interest.

Win some, you lose some

Well that was a better day!

Two wins, two losses out of today but some good milestones achieved even in the losses and great improvements seen in the development grade over the course of the week. Tazz Satti noticed improvements even in the few days he had with the team, and Coel Mahoney for the Black Dev side was impressed with people who stepped up to give them a win, even when their captain had been called up to the A side to cover for injury. Great team contributions.

So Burgundy Development.
Starting the day at 122/7 chasing Manukau's 368/3, Burgundy were all out for 165 and made to follow on.
After a rough day yesterday Dhilesh Vasan had the patience of a saint today scoring 55 off 157 balls opening the innings. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of support for him and although there were a few starts in the end the result came that was expected against this strong Manukau side and we ended up all out for 165, losing outright by an innings.
I just want to say well done to this team that had players in and out, through unavailability, which made it hard for people's roles to be set in stone, and they battled away and still were in good spirits today. Thanks to Liam Davy for coming in again and it was good to meet some new boys we didn't know about before such as Tyran. Thanks to Felix as captain and to Shane Young for helping with scoring and a bit of managing.
Thanks to Fraser Bowden now sunning himself in Aussie, and Tauseef Satti (Tazz, as in the bats) for coaching.

Black Development
We started the day needing 107 for first innings points (chasing 167) but sadly that didn't happen and we were all out for 110. The opposition then posted a sporting declaration of 143/4 leaving us 200 runs to chase down.
For the most part, our batting scorecard in this innings came together well with Jack Dromgool (32) and Chris Wilkinson (15) pairing up for a 52 run opening partnership and then 14 year old Tristan Van Ingen-Kal stepped up to the number 3 stop vacated by Will O'Donnell heading to the A side for the day. It was pretty to watch as the youngster clocked 65 from 95, playing sensibly and just putting away the bad ones. 10 x 4 in the innings. Well done!
When Ethan Schaumkel departed prematurely,  Zac White stepped up and hit a great 60 from 58 balls (9x4) and those two good innings got us over the line for the outright win!
Previously we even saw Jack Dromgool (captain for today) turn his arm over - 6 overs, 1 maiden, 0-11 - no wicket but good economy. Ryan Lowans picked up 2, and Ethan and Jayson one each in the earlier innings.
So a good way to end the tournament. Thanks again to Tristan and Ethan for joining us after Steven Henshaw's injury. You were great!
And thanks to Coel Mahoney - coach. Good growth seen in the players.

Black A
There was another sporting declaration or two with this game that gave it a bit of life to the end. After Eastern's formidable 383, we declared on 192/5 forfeiting the first innings. Eastern then went into bat and declared on 29/1 setting us a total of 220 for the win.
In our second innings of 192/5 everyone got double figures! :-) Top score was Will O'Donnell, not out on 53 at the declaration. Our final batting innings was ticking on very nicely with the top 6 scoring some runs but not going on. Ethan Lovich 43, Jeremy Houghton 40 forming a 75 run partnership for the first wicket. But after the top 6, wickets fell steadily and in the end we came up 13 runs short, all out for 207. It was a good effort and very sporting of Eastern to make a game of it.
Thanks so much to Karen Steyn who scored the game and the others. It's a tiring job but a crucial one.
And to Neil Fletcher aka Fletch for his efforts in coaching these boys.

Burgundy A
Clayton Floyd and Dylan Budler returned to the crease today to chase down 50 runs to take first innings points and did it in style in 11 overs this morning. Clayton was 56 not out and Dylan 28 not out.
We declared 3 runs ahead at 178/5 effectively meaning we had almost a one-dayer on our hands.
Central then declared at 217/4 (C Floyd 3/61) with a lead of 214 runs. It was a sporting gesture from a team that had already won the competition and we took it with both hands.
So then it got quite interesting...Jackson Tredray (73, 12x4 1x6) and Dan Robinson (18) got us off to a flyer, brilliantly supported by Tom Hewitt batting at 4 (56, 7x4) and then just when it was getting a bit scary Sam Logan came in and played the innings we knew he could play but was saving his best til last, including hitting one of the top bowlers for 6! It was a great moment to see Sam (27 not out) get us over the line with Andrew Scott (8 not out, and who bowled brilliantly all tournament) and know Sam will go away from the tournament happy, as will all the boys by ending with a win. We got there 215/7.
Thanks so much to Paul Strang for coaching and Graeme Budler for being a fantastic manager.

One of the games (Black Dev) hasn't been added into the tournament yet at CricHQ end for some reason but they will get that fixed soon hopefully as it affects MVP and batting stats.
Photos to come... probably on Facebook.

AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES AND TRIALLISTS

And there was extra good news for a bunch of deserving Harbour players.
Named in the Auckland Under 17 squad were: Clayton Floyd, Cole Briggs, Will O'Donnell, Ross Ter Braak and Chris Groenink to play in the National Tournament in Wellington.

Named in the trial squad for Auckland Under 19s were Ullrich Boshoff, Nathan Banks and Jackson Tredray. Auckland Cricket were at pains to point out that anyone who missed and who was closed will be watched right up to March in club and school and that it's a three-year development programme for players.

Thanks to all the parents who gave me a little gift today, really appreciated it. As you know it's a volunteer role so it's nice to be able to drink at the end of it all. From now on I can just sit back and watch and never have to convene again!

Have a great Christmas everyone. I probably won't put photos on the blog until after Christmas now, but might flick some up to Facebook as it's easier.

Sunday not such a funday

So, that was cricket on rock-hard pitches and outfields then?In the wind and sun. On day 6 of a tournament. Tough aye?

Looking around the games today I saw a lot of tired players... the fielding was a bit dismal in parts, although I did see a great catch from Ryan Lowans while I was over at the Black Dev game.
Do your coaches a favour boys and get down, boys. Lose a bit of skin... as I think a few players heard me inadvertently call out today. Long barrier wasn't drilled into you at the age of 6 for nothing. :-)

So where are we at after day one of the final two dayers?

Black Development
The Black Development team bowled really, really well to restrict restrict Central to 167 all out.
But as has been the case with many of our players, we failed to put runs on the board in reply.  And from what looked like a reasonable opportunity for a first innings win, we are now 61/7.
The only player to put up any kind of resistance with the bat was Tristan van Ingen Kal (21), brought up from a great tournament at the Under 16s. Thanks to him for playing for us, and also to U16 Ethan Schaumkel, who hasn't yet had a shot with the bat, but maybe the young guns can do it.
All the bowlers did their job today - Josh Lewis had great figures of 12 overs, 7 maidens, 4/20.
Angus Frew 13 overs 2 maidens 1/34
William O'Donnell 22 11 maidens 2/36 (CricHQ is wrong with 33, need to fix it)
Hayden Sim was unlucky not to get another spell after 4 overs, for 5 runs and Jayson Jooste bowled as he has all tournament, on the money, line and length almost every time and was rewarded with 15 overs, 6 maidens, 3/33.
Josh Lewis and Ryan Lowans have all day to bat tomorrow... with 107 runs required for first innings points.
Sorry to Steven Henshaw who injured himself while doing a bit of extra bowling in the nets this morning and couldn't play. :-( He stuck around and helped out though, so thanks Steven.

Burgundy Development
Man these guys have actually been unlucky. Today they had one bowler away who will play tomorrow (Jordan) but unfortunately they lost the toss and ended up having to bowl, with one bowler down. This is also a team that's had hideous player unavailablility for half the tournament which really doesn't help.
Enter another U16 player Adrian Young who helped big time with great figures of 11 overs 4 maidens 1/28 but unfortunately 3 century makers in the opposition made our guys' lives hell and it was almost a blessing when Manukau declared at 368/3.
Again a bit of a batting disaster occurred and we are 122/7 with Matt Fenn very unlucky to get a first-baller, after coming up to help us out from the Under 16s. :-(  Three boys got starts Liam Davy (28), Kieran Seedall (25) and Felix Dewe (38) but it's going to take a century or two not to have to bat again tomorrow.
Thanks also to Carl Kirstein who took the gloves today with both previous keepers not available for the final game..
Scorecard here

Black A
Fielding. I think Black A would agree it was a bit of a shocker today, although I'd say in their defence that ground is rock-hard, bumpy, undulating in parts - I know, I watched it for the previous few days. Of course that doesn't explain the put down catches.
However, despite this there were a couple of good bowling performance. Ross Ter Braak had 7 maidens 1/33 off his maximum 16 overs, Nathan Banks was on the money again with 16 overs 3 maidens 4/55.
The innings ended at 383/10 so it will take a couple of players to step up big time tomorrow, but we have done it before and can do it again. Just need those century makers on this same day this time!
Scorecard here

Burgundy A
Burgundy A can feel happy with their bowling efforts today on what was a spinners' hunting ground as it turned out. Chris Groenink should have had a wicket (catches win matches, anyone?) as he bowled brilliantly with 8 overs 5 maidens for 6 runs. Andrew Scott was again very effective with 8 overs, 2 maidens 3/19 but then the spinners grabbed the ball and made some great inroads to bowl out Central for 175. No it wasn't for 11 as CricHQ says, there is a glitch that will be fixed tomorrow.
Nic Montgomery - got a five-wicket bag, well 6, with 21 overs (not 22 like CricHQ says) 5 maidens 6/47 (I think it's 47) and with Clayton Floyd bowling really well at the other end, the two put pressure on Central. Clayton Floyd ended up with great figures too - 23.3 overs, 4 maidens 2/70.
In reply it's been a crumbly old start - but better than most of our games! - before a horrible run out put us on the back foot a bit. However with Clayton Floyd (24*) and Dylan Budler (9*) at the crease tomorrow and just 50 runs to get to take first innings, we have to feel some confidence. You can do it boys!
