Win some, you lose some

Well that was a better day!

Two wins, two losses out of today but some good milestones achieved even in the losses and great improvements seen in the development grade over the course of the week. Tazz Satti noticed improvements even in the few days he had with the team, and Coel Mahoney for the Black Dev side was impressed with people who stepped up to give them a win, even when their captain had been called up to the A side to cover for injury. Great team contributions.

So Burgundy Development.
Starting the day at 122/7 chasing Manukau's 368/3, Burgundy were all out for 165 and made to follow on.
After a rough day yesterday Dhilesh Vasan had the patience of a saint today scoring 55 off 157 balls opening the innings. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of support for him and although there were a few starts in the end the result came that was expected against this strong Manukau side and we ended up all out for 165, losing outright by an innings.
I just want to say well done to this team that had players in and out, through unavailability, which made it hard for people's roles to be set in stone, and they battled away and still were in good spirits today. Thanks to Liam Davy for coming in again and it was good to meet some new boys we didn't know about before such as Tyran. Thanks to Felix as captain and to Shane Young for helping with scoring and a bit of managing.
Thanks to Fraser Bowden now sunning himself in Aussie, and Tauseef Satti (Tazz, as in the bats) for coaching.

Black Development
We started the day needing 107 for first innings points (chasing 167) but sadly that didn't happen and we were all out for 110. The opposition then posted a sporting declaration of 143/4 leaving us 200 runs to chase down.
For the most part, our batting scorecard in this innings came together well with Jack Dromgool (32) and Chris Wilkinson (15) pairing up for a 52 run opening partnership and then 14 year old Tristan Van Ingen-Kal stepped up to the number 3 stop vacated by Will O'Donnell heading to the A side for the day. It was pretty to watch as the youngster clocked 65 from 95, playing sensibly and just putting away the bad ones. 10 x 4 in the innings. Well done!
When Ethan Schaumkel departed prematurely,  Zac White stepped up and hit a great 60 from 58 balls (9x4) and those two good innings got us over the line for the outright win!
Previously we even saw Jack Dromgool (captain for today) turn his arm over - 6 overs, 1 maiden, 0-11 - no wicket but good economy. Ryan Lowans picked up 2, and Ethan and Jayson one each in the earlier innings.
So a good way to end the tournament. Thanks again to Tristan and Ethan for joining us after Steven Henshaw's injury. You were great!
And thanks to Coel Mahoney - coach. Good growth seen in the players.

Black A
There was another sporting declaration or two with this game that gave it a bit of life to the end. After Eastern's formidable 383, we declared on 192/5 forfeiting the first innings. Eastern then went into bat and declared on 29/1 setting us a total of 220 for the win.
In our second innings of 192/5 everyone got double figures! :-) Top score was Will O'Donnell, not out on 53 at the declaration. Our final batting innings was ticking on very nicely with the top 6 scoring some runs but not going on. Ethan Lovich 43, Jeremy Houghton 40 forming a 75 run partnership for the first wicket. But after the top 6, wickets fell steadily and in the end we came up 13 runs short, all out for 207. It was a good effort and very sporting of Eastern to make a game of it.
Thanks so much to Karen Steyn who scored the game and the others. It's a tiring job but a crucial one.
And to Neil Fletcher aka Fletch for his efforts in coaching these boys.

Burgundy A
Clayton Floyd and Dylan Budler returned to the crease today to chase down 50 runs to take first innings points and did it in style in 11 overs this morning. Clayton was 56 not out and Dylan 28 not out.
We declared 3 runs ahead at 178/5 effectively meaning we had almost a one-dayer on our hands.
Central then declared at 217/4 (C Floyd 3/61) with a lead of 214 runs. It was a sporting gesture from a team that had already won the competition and we took it with both hands.
So then it got quite interesting...Jackson Tredray (73, 12x4 1x6) and Dan Robinson (18) got us off to a flyer, brilliantly supported by Tom Hewitt batting at 4 (56, 7x4) and then just when it was getting a bit scary Sam Logan came in and played the innings we knew he could play but was saving his best til last, including hitting one of the top bowlers for 6! It was a great moment to see Sam (27 not out) get us over the line with Andrew Scott (8 not out, and who bowled brilliantly all tournament) and know Sam will go away from the tournament happy, as will all the boys by ending with a win. We got there 215/7.
Thanks so much to Paul Strang for coaching and Graeme Budler for being a fantastic manager.

One of the games (Black Dev) hasn't been added into the tournament yet at CricHQ end for some reason but they will get that fixed soon hopefully as it affects MVP and batting stats.
Photos to come... probably on Facebook.

AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES AND TRIALLISTS

And there was extra good news for a bunch of deserving Harbour players.
Named in the Auckland Under 17 squad were: Clayton Floyd, Cole Briggs, Will O'Donnell, Ross Ter Braak and Chris Groenink to play in the National Tournament in Wellington.

Named in the trial squad for Auckland Under 19s were Ullrich Boshoff, Nathan Banks and Jackson Tredray. Auckland Cricket were at pains to point out that anyone who missed and who was closed will be watched right up to March in club and school and that it's a three-year development programme for players.

Thanks to all the parents who gave me a little gift today, really appreciated it. As you know it's a volunteer role so it's nice to be able to drink at the end of it all. From now on I can just sit back and watch and never have to convene again!

Have a great Christmas everyone. I probably won't put photos on the blog until after Christmas now, but might flick some up to Facebook as it's easier.
