UPDATED! Photos and transport

The photo schedule is as follows: NOTE: UPDATED WEDNESDAY NIGHT

For some reason Auckland Cricket have only just realised Waikaraka needs to be used in the evenings so there has been a late CHANGE TO THE GAME START TIMES EACH DAY.

Each game will now start at 10:00am. (not 10.30) This is different to the playing conditions.

On Sunday Dec 15 (day one) the opening ceremony will begin at 8.45am followed by a quick coaches/managers meeting.

On Thursday 19th and Friday the 20th play will start at 9:30am (two-day game so both days must start at the same time).

PHOTO SCHEDULE (REVISED)
U18A Boys – Thursday December 19
PHOTO: 8.40    North Harbour Burgundy  BE THERE 8.30
PHOTO: 8.50     North Harbour Black    BE THERE 8.40

U18 ‘Development’ Boys: Friday December 20
PHOTO: 8.40    North Harbour Burgundy  BE THERE 8.30
PHOTO: 8.50     North Harbour Black    BE THERE 8.40
GAME STARTS AT 9.30AM THIS DAY
All games are played at Waikaraka Park in Onehunga. Here's a map,
Coaches will tell you what time they want you there but I assume it will be 9am except on photo day above (8.30am)
With regards to transport
We’re coming from the North Shore so I am sure you know how hideous this might all be. Please leave with PLENTY of time to spare. Hey, perhaps we can camp there overnight. ;-)

All games are played at Waikaraka Park in Onehunga. Here's a map, and games NOW BEGIN AT 10AM except on photo days.

So, obviously this can be a challenge to get to. I can NOT be running around on Saturday night finding people rides. I work full time and am busy all day Saturday so I urge you to find out who you can get a ride with if needed BEFORE THE WEEKEND and to leave with plenty of time in hand to account for rush hour traffic.

From memory last year we left home at 8am (Birkenhead) and arrived there about 9.15 on bad days. This year the games are earlier so you be the judge. I will try and get a list of the area each boy lives by Thursday morning. If people could assist each other with rides that would be great.

Back up park (you will be advised if there is a transfer) is Keith Hay. Map here

Game results and other things

So, now we have lulled Western into a false sense of security we can go out and beat them in the tournament ok?

Two losses today, Burgundy A snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and after a good early start to their bowling Black Development unfortunately encountered two in-form Western batsmen who both got centuries.
And you will remember those Devonport wickets - those boundaries aren't kind to bowlers' figures however both coaches said we bowled well. Two five-wicket bags in there as well.

Burgundy A lost toss, bowled first
Batting first Western were all out for 184
Best bowling C Floyd 10 overs 5/40
A Scott 8 overs 1/12
E Meenhorst 6 overs 1/20
R Ter Braak (filling in for Burgundy) 7 overs 1/21

Batting (double figures only)  164/10
D Robinson 19 (45)
C Floyd 41 (43)
N Montgomery 24 (47)
I Snell 16 (38)
D Budler 18 (18)

Black Development lost toss bowled first  Western 343 (in context, remember 2 x Harbour teams got a similar score at Devonport last time we played there on those boundaries)
Scorebook appears to have been filled out by a drunk spider :-) but from what I can work out:
A Frew 10 overs 3/31
H Sim 9 overs 5/70
W O'Donnell 4 overs 2/10

Batting (double figures only)  Harbour 146/10
D Fonseka 11 (20)
T Robb 17 (36)
C Wilkinson 16  (55)
J Edgar 16  (10)
R Lowans 15*  (7)

Both Paul and Coel said a lot of positives to come from the bowling, but obviously the batsmen need to kick on. I'm sure they said it better than me.  Get out and hit some balls this week.

Thanks to all those who filled in for us today to make sure we had full teams. Really appreciated. I mean, really.

Only 6 days now til tournament. Don't get injured (William?).

MANAGERS: Today I had to submit teams/coaches and managers to Auckland Cricket.
We are the only district that couldn't provide managers for  allour teams. Thanks to Graeme Budler for doing Burgundy A and Karen Steyn for Blac k A but anyone else?
All you have to do is make sure each team is in the right place, with a scoresheet, and a scorer, and on time for the photo, and collect score sheets after each game. And just support the coach when he asks for help. Let me know Tuesday please.  Denise 027 224 0181

North Harbour Tournament Squad Announcement

There have been some very tough decisions to be made in the magic formula that makes up team selection. There will be a number of players who have missed out on A selection and will be disappointed. In the end, the selectors have to make a call on, is this player in the top 4 spinners? Is this player in the top four openers? Is the player in the top 8 middle order batsmen etc.
But we hope we have the balance right. Many hours were spent deliberating and calling outside advisers to ensure fairness, in addition to performances in trials.

We are required to have 2 reasonably balanced sides in the A division. This has been a directive of Auckland cricket over the years so players get a chance to do more, and get seen. We want to win the tournament as well – it’s always the aim and last year we came 1st and second in the As. This year we would like a Development side to win as well.   We are the only district required to have 4 sides in the competition.

Our development sides are strong but we are still filling a few positions to get the balance right and because of late unexpected player unavailability (we are allowed to name 26 in Dev, 24 in A)
The boys named below  will be capped but we have some decisions to make about the rest of the Development squad so some players will be added in the next few days.

The 4 teams (black and burgundy), captains and coaches will be named on Tuesday night at capping.
(See under the team lists for important dates)
I know a number of you can’t make capping. If you haven’t let me know, please do.
The teams will be posted on the North Harbour Blog later that night.
There’s always a lot of intensity surrounding selection of players but it pays to remember why you are playing. Passion for cricket.

I recently did an interview with a former Black Cap and he was talking about a time as a bowler when he got smashed all over the park during a series. He said: “It was a massive confidence destroyer.  Things had been going quite well up until then and in lots of ways that’s the thing that has had the most effect on me in the terms of teaching me resilience.  It taught me not to give up on things - there is light at the end of the tunnel but you can’t get to it unless you keep going.” Just a little thing that I thought was best shared!

The 24 players who will play in the A tournament are (alphabetical order)
